BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU IS A MARTIAL ART FOCUSED IN GRAPPLING AND GROUND FIGHTING.

THE CONCEPT OF BJJ IS THAT A SMALLER, WEAKER PERSON CAN SUCCESSFULLY DEFEND THEMSELVES OR ANOTHER AGAINST A BIGGER, STRONGER, HEAVIER ASSAILANT BY USING PROPER TECHNIQUE, LEVERAGE, AND MOST NOTABLY, TAKING THE FIGHT TO THE GROUND, AND THEN APPLYING JOINT-LOCKS AND CHOKEHOLDS TO DEFEAT THE OPPONENT.

IT’S THE PROVEN EFFICIENCY THAT MAKES THE ART OF BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU ONE - IF NOT - THE STRONGEST MARTIAL ARTS AT ALL.

BJJ IS FORMED FROM KODOKAN JUDO GROUND FIGHTING (NEWAZA) FUNDAMENTALS THAT WERE TAUGHT BY A NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS INCLUDING TAKEO YANO, MITSUYO MAEDA AND SOSHIHIRO SATAKE DURING THE LATE 1950'S IN BRAZIL.

MITSUYO MAEDA - ALSO KNOWN AS COUNT KOMA, WHO WAS SPREADING THE ART OF KODOKAN JUDO IN BRAZIL, TAUGHT HIS ART TO CARLOS GRACIE AND OTHERS BRAZILIANS LIKE LUIS FRANCA.

BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU EVENTUALLY CAME TO BE ITS OWN ART THROUGH THE EXPERIMENTS, PRACTICES, AND ADAPTATION OF LUIS FRANCA, CARLOS GRACIE, HIS YOUNGER AND SMALLER BROTHER HELIO GRACIE AS WELL AS OTHER INSTRUCTORS IN BRAZIL.

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU IS NOT JUST A BEAUTIFUL & EFFICIENT MARTIAL ART IT IS AS WELL BUILDING CHARACTER IN YOUNG PEOPLE; AND ULTIMATELY, IT IS A WAY OF LIFE – OUR  CHOSEN WAY OF LIFE.
